My family has been encouraging me to start a blog for some time but I never felt my life was interesting enough to share, but recent endeavors might prove otherwise. I have spent the last two years teaching at a beautiful, private, Christian school on the water in Maine called Chop Point School. We just wrapped up the year where I taught Kindergarten part-time, elementary art, and high school art. I nanny for a family of five girls after school and in-between the chaos I try to fit in my own art time. I am a newlywed, married to my long-time, childhood sweetheart J and he just nailed an incredible job with a heavy civil construction company called CB&I. He is going into a 2 year training program where they intend to move us every six months, project to project for exposure to the company. For his first assignment they are shipping us to South Carolina! This is a completely new, intimidating, but so exciting time for us and we are eager to start the journey.
Things I love:
Creating! I love making pretty things that make people smile and one of my greatest joys in this time to come is the opportunity to finally focus on my artwork instead of my normally chaotic schedule that leaves me no time for myself. I have so many plans, so many experiments and so many long passed due, promised art for loved ones who kindly wait patiently.
Gardening. My love for gardening grows every year. As most gardeners do, I love the dirt on my hands and the satisfaction of the fruits of my labor. I love to cook and play with food and when it comes from my own garden it is just a joy unspeakable. I am excited for the challenge of my traveling garden this year and look forward also to the creative challenge of making it work. I intend to start a plant for each place we live and see this little memoir garden grow...we will see how long this lasts.
Cooking! J and I are both big foodies. We love all things food, good food, local food, raw food! We focus on eating nourishing, wholesome food right from our local farms. We love visiting our favorite farmers and purchasing our veggies, meat and dairy right there. It is just the best...but do not mistake me, J and I are also huge fans of ice cream every night, fresh baked goods and donuts on the occasion. Cooking is a huge part of our life and we look forward to being creative and finding our new favorite markets and farms in our area. We also love going out to eat and cannot wait to restaurant hop in Columbia.
Gunner! Our dog. He is just the best and I might as well introduce him because you will see a lot of him I am sure. He is a massive English Springer Spaniel who I got a few years ago as a puppy and has just been by my side for the past few years through the good times and the bad. He comes on all of our adventures and is just an absolute knucklehead. He loves J to death but is a mamas boy...he is my only child (for now).
Houses. I come from a family of house lovers. I grew up in the most exquisite homes. My mother has the eye and she handed the passion down. I love old, beautiful houses and I love to make my home beautiful. I love overbearing gardens, old paned windows everywhere, bright white walls and gorgeous floors. It makes it hard to move because I am quite particular.
J. My best friend. The most handsome husband in the world. I am the winner! He shares all of these same joys with me which just makes our life very fun. I am so proud of him and I support him completely. I am along for the ride!
So happy to meet you! I can't wait to go along side your wonderful adventure! J is the second most handsome husband in the world.
